Quaint little Italian eatery with extremely friendly staff. Pasta and pizzas were really good and presented good value for the price. Would recommend it.

First impressions: Decided to drop by on a weekend night. Noticed that the staff weren’t exactly attentive at customers coming through the door and took several minutes before a server acknowledged us. Restaurant was also slightly disorganised. We were told that the tables were not ready and waited for a bit longer. Upon seating, we noticed that the table cloth still had stains on them. The menu did not look very professional but that was a small issue. However, it was odd that the menu on the website did not match the menu given to us.

Food: Spaghetti alla bottarga was cooked al dente, good effort on that. Balance of the garlic and olive oil was good too. However, very little finesse with the placement of the rocket leaves which did not add to the dish in terms of flavour at all. The amount of fish roe was paltry and contributed little to the flavour. Not a good balance of rocket leaves to fish roe.

The squid ink sauce for the squid ink linguine was too thin and did not have a rich creamy and briny taste.

Staff: The indian girl on shift looked completely disinterested in serving customers and was either noticed to be avoiding eye contact or chatting with other staff. She seemed to be really slow in clearing the plates.

Another indian guy fared better in terms of service. Could tell that he was more genuine in serving the customers but came off as unprofessional. He was also fooling around with the other staff. A decent effort but more training could have been done.

Noticed one kitchen staff that was not in uniform but rather in a t-shirt. Seeing as how the customers could look into the kitchen it did not feel professional at all considering the prices charged at the restaurant (certainly not high but what one would expect restaurant prices to be).

It’s a shame how one of my favourite restaurants (before the move to the Turf Club) has started serving mediocre food and giving substandard service. The staff at their old location were more up to par.

2nd visit and definitely not the last. Affordable Italian food with reasonable portion.

    *Q4 2019 update*

They’ve moved to turf club now, and food remains good, but it’s also nestled among local indigenous food shops so their quiet elegance struggles a little.

we finally made it here last weekend, with other family members. We had to sit outside (fine previously because trees buffered the traffic noise, and they allowed dogs). Now, outdoor seating is located under exhaust systems of some sort so any good smells will be masked by the stink of reused cooking oil.

Service also seems to have taken a hit – the friendly Indian guy who’s been there for years (as referenced by other reviewers) looks unhappy and isn’t as patient.

Also when I called to require on availability a few weeks back, some guy (not the old timer) was almost entirely coherent, it was annoying. I’d rather pay full price than have them be on entertainer and offer mediocre food or expand into coffee ……

I think it’s still a good place with 1 for 1 apps, but if I’m paying full price I’ll go to V, in the next building.

Moral of the story: make your booking in advance on weekends so you don’t get grumpy outside.casa Roma is quietly elegant, but even that can’t stand out when you’re marinating in the fumes of someone else’s Zichar fumes.

    ORIGINAL:

We’d been coming here as kids. Moved out of the area, didn’t come back for years. Went back today, found the food as hearty and delicious as the last time we came. The waiter was a little older but he looks happier. We will be back! Hopefully in less than a year
